From the main stage, UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer addressed the 2026 JNS International Policy Conference, reaffirming UN Watch’s mission to confront antisemitism, defend human rights, and bring truth and accountability to the United Nations.

Full Remarks:

Friends, thank you for the very warm reception here in Jerusalem. I’m coming here from the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, where, when I walk into the room, I get an altogether very different kind of reception. So I’m glad to make the adjustment.

I was supposed to be here on stage today with Ambassador Danny Danon, Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, but he was unable to attend because he had to participate in an important meeting at the United Nations. You may have seen the video of a clash that occurred during a meeting on sexual violence in conflict. Ambassador Danon was calling out the latest disgraceful report by the UN Secretary-General, in which Israel was placed on the same blacklist as the Hamas terrorist organization and falsely accused of systematic sexual violence through the IDF.

As he spoke, he was suddenly interrupted by one of the Secretary-General’s representatives, Vanessa Frazier, the former Ambassador of Malta who now serves as the Special Representative on Children and Armed Conflict. The exchange went viral online. One of the debates afterward was whether she had the right to interrupt him.

A website called Security Council Procedure claimed that she did. Of course, that was false. A UN staff member has no right to interrupt a member state. I responded on Twitter to this account, which is supposed to be an expert source on UN procedure. I said that, from personal experience, I have been condemned personally hundreds of times at the United Nations, and I have never had the right to intervene. Only a member state can interrupt on a point of order.

Soon afterward, the account deleted all of its tweets on the issue. Why do I mention this? Because it is indicative of a broader problem. The Secretary-General’s representative broke clear procedure in order to interrupt the State of Israel—something they would never do to any other state. They would never interrupt China, Qatar, Russia, Pakistan, or Venezuela. Yet when it comes to Israel, they do.

You know, António Guterres is the same man who, just two weeks after October 7, came before the United Nations and said, “Yes, I condemn the attacks of October 7.” But he also said it was important to note that the attacks “did not happen in a vacuum.” He then went on to enumerate numerous alleged Palestinian grievances against Israel.

Effectively, António Guterres was justifying the attacks of October 7. But, not everything he said was wrong. When he said the attacks did not happen in a vacuum, that was true. Nothing any of us did today happened in a vacuum. Everything is influenced by our surroundings, our culture, and the people around us.

But if Mr. Guterres had even a smidgen of self-reflection, he might have asked who educated the Hamas terrorists who invaded Israel on October 7 and committed atrocities. Who taught them?

According to former UNRWA legal advisor Johann Soufi, 90 percent of those in Gaza attended UNRWA schools. UNRWA schools did not happen in a vacuum. You’re right, Mr. Guterres—the attacks did not happen in a vacuum. The perpetrators of those atrocities were graduates of your education system, graduates of your schools.

Let me share a few words about our battles against terrorism and antisemitism at the United Nations.

I mentioned UNRWA. It was recently reported that UNRWA finally fired 70 staff members over terror links. They said they were not acknowledging wrongdoing, but let me say a word about what we have been exposing over the past decade, and especially over the past few years.

UNRWA has been funded by all the Western countries—the EU countries, Canada, Australia, and others. We have been funding UNRWA with billions and billions of dollars. Yet after seven decades, they have not resettled a single Palestinian. Quite the opposite.

To quote former Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, it is a “perverse logic. We are perpetuating the conflict.”

UNRWA has a pathological purpose: to keep Palestinians in a state of dependency, grievance, and war against Israel, teaching them that their mission is to dismantle Israel through the so-called “right of return.” Those who invaded Israel on October 7 believed they were exercising that right, exactly as they had been taught in UNRWA schools.

UNRWA tells European taxpayers that it teaches UN values, human rights, and human dignity. But who are the teachers?

Last year, in our report Schools in the Grip of Terror, we exposed the fact that the head of the teachers’ union in Gaza, Suhail al-Hindi—a teacher for 30 years, a school principal, and the head of 8,000 UNRWA teachers funded by Western taxpayers—was a member of the Hamas politburo. He still is. You can see photographs of him with Yahya Sinwar.

So the head of the teachers’ union, a teacher and school principal, was on the Hamas politburo that planned the October 7 attacks.

Go to Lebanon. A year and a half ago, Fathi al-Sharif, head of the UNRWA teachers’ union there, was killed in an IDF strike. He had spent 30 years as a teacher and school principal in UNRWA schools funded by Western donors. On the day he was killed, Hamas announced that Israel had killed one of its leaders.

I’m not telling you that he was a Hamas leader. Hamas said it. Hamas said Fathi al-Sharif, the head of the UNRWA teachers’ union in Lebanon, was the head of Hamas in Lebanon. They released videos showing him with Ismail Haniyeh and accompanied by Hamas bodyguards.

When the Secretary-General’s spokesman was asked how it was possible that the head of a UNRWA teachers’ union was also the head of Hamas, he replied that when an underground militant group operates underground, it is difficult to know.

How could they know? In the report we released—more than 100 pages long—we answered that question. They could have known because he announced it every day. On his public Facebook page, open for the entire world to see, Fathi al-Sharif regularly posted support for Hamas, photographs with terrorists, images from Hamas funerals, and celebrations of terrorist attacks.

Everybody knew.

Philippe Lazzarini is about to retire as head of UNRWA, and we will demand his indictment for complicity in war crimes, terrorism, and crimes against humanity. He cannot claim he did not know. He knew, and we have the receipts.

I am happy to say that the United States government has now defunded UNRWA. The United States used to provide $400 million a year. Today, that figure is zero. Sweden has also ended funding worth tens of millions of dollars.

But the battle continues. France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and other European countries are still funding an agency that, in the words of Secretary Rubio, is “an arm of Hamas.” If we want peace in this region, if we want deradicalization, it begins and ends with UNRWA.

Let me now say a word about the UN Human Rights Council, which is meeting as we speak.

Today, Reem Alsalem of Jordan, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women—and also one of the most prominent deniers of violence against Israeli women—is presenting her latest report. Among other things, it accuses Israel of genocide. I hope someone confronts her. We’ll see what happens. Stay tuned.

But let me say a word about the other rapporteurs before I conclude.

UN rapporteurs are supposed to be the crown jewels of the UN system: independent human rights experts. A week or two ago, we released a report titled From Watchdogs to Ideologues, documenting how UN rapporteurs have politicized and subverted the human rights system.

We found that George Katrougalos, the UN expert on a democratic and equitable international order, received $100,000 from the Chinese Communist Party. This is documented in UN records that we uncovered.

In the same year, he attended a propaganda event in Greece promoting a book by Xi Jinping and praised Xi’s vision. While receiving funding from China, he never criticizes China. Instead, he attacks Israel daily and accuses it of genocide.

Another rapporteur is Ben Saul, professor of law at the University of Sydney and the UN Special Rapporteur on counterterrorism and human rights. He received $150,000 from the Chinese Communist regime.

Despite China’s detention of more than a million Uyghurs under the banner of counterterrorism, he has never spoken out against it. Instead, while receiving Chinese funding, he repeatedly condemns Israel. He accuses American leaders of criminal conduct and calls for their arrest.

Then there is Alena Douhan, the UN Special Rapporteur on sanctions. She received $1.3 million from China, Russia, and Qatar while producing reports that praised China, Russia, Qatar, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Syria, and Iran—regimes she portrayed as victims of sanctions.

Finally, I will mention one rapporteur you all know well: Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories.

She has said that America is controlled by the Jewish lobby. After October 7, she defended Hamas by insisting there was a “context.” Every few minutes on social media, she echoes some of the worst blood libels against Israel and serves as one of the leading promoters of the genocide libel.

We are fighting back.

We exposed her hateful remarks. She is now the first UN rapporteur in history to be condemned by France, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Hungary, the United States, Latvia, Estonia, and many other countries.

Every condemnation matters.

We led a campaign that gathered 120,000 signatures urging Secretary Rubio to take action. When the UN failed to act, Secretary Rubio announced that, for the first time in history, the United States would sanction a UN official.

On July 9, Francesca Albanese became the first UN rapporteur ever sanctioned by the United States.

No more lectures at Harvard, Princeton, Georgetown, or Columbia. She is barred from entering the United States. She cannot use American financial systems. She cannot receive payments through them.

In her own words, the sanctions have been “devastating.” Good. Very good. It sends a message of deterrence.

After she was sanctioned, her husband, who works for the World Bank and has echoed her incitement, was demoted from his position. Shortly afterward, Navi Pillay, head of the Commission of Inquiry against Israel, resigned. We heard that she was concerned about the possibility of sanctions affecting her ability to enter the United States.

Friends, we face a steep uphill battle. Whether it is UNRWA or the UN rapporteurs, we are not going to give up.

We are going to keep fighting the haters.

The United Nations was founded on genuine principles of human rights. We are going to uphold those principles.

I want to conclude by recalling what the Lubavitcher Rebbe told Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations in the 1980s. He said:

“You are entering a house of darkness. Your mission is to light a candle of truth.”

That is exactly what we are going to do. And we are not going to give up.

Thank you very much.

Leading author and intellectual Ayaan Hirsi Ali was presented with the Moral Courage Award before a sold-out audience at the 2026 UN Watch Gala Dinner. Upon receiving the award, Hirsi Ali delivered a powerful speech and was interviewed on stage by UN Watch Chair and former Canadian Senator Linda Frum. Here are some of the highlights from the Q&A:

Hon. Linda Frum: You have lived your life under constant threat, facing real danger and real consequences. Can you talk to us about the personal cost of living your life this way?

Ayaan Hirsi Ali: I think the question I always get is: What is the cost? I almost never get the question: What is the reward? To be honest with you, I think, as the other two award winners tonight will tell you, the reward is a lot greater than the cost. Sitting on the sidelines and watching what we watch and see renders you a complainer. It renders you a spectator.

I think I would be more depressed and downcast if I simply watched than if I stood up and did something about it, however small. The first thing I did seemed very small to me. I didn’t wear a uniform. I wasn’t on the front lines, as members of the IDF are. I didn’t discover anything revolutionary.

I simply spoke up. I was inspired by the insight that evil proliferates when good people do nothing. And I think doing something — however small it is, however small it may seem to you — is much more rewarding than meditating on what the cost might be.

Hon. Linda Frum: You really are a remarkable person. In a way, I suppose it’s unfortunate that such courage is considered remarkable. We admire somebody who has the courage that you do because, while you may downplay it, it is rare and unusual for people to stand up and speak out.

We know the reasons why so many people are afraid to do so. There are consequences — social consequences, consequences for friendships, and consequences for careers. When you want to inspire people to be more like you and to take that kind of stand, what advice do you have for people who feel that fear and need to overcome it?

Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Just do it. It’s hard to give advice. I’ve spoken to different people at different moments and in different settings. I don’t know if we’re completely coming out of it, but in both Canada and the United States we’ve lived through this phenomenon called cancel culture, where fellow academics and people in positions of leadership hesitate to speak out because they may lose their jobs. It might have consequences for their children or their social lives.

The kinds of conversations we have are very different from those I have with a young woman fleeing a forced marriage who comes to me through my organization and asks, “What should I do now? Should I run away from home?” To some of these young women, I have said, “Maybe it’s not the right time to run away.” To those who have already run away and receive a letter from home saying, “Come back,” I say, “I don’t think it’s wise to go back.”

But to a professor of history, classics, or political science, I would say: yes, it is worth speaking out. It may have consequences for your job in the short term, but before long you’ll stand out as a brave voice. The one thing I do know is that I’ve been speaking out for the last 25 years, and not once have I regretted doing so.

Hon. Linda Frum: On the topic of shocking moral inversions, let’s touch briefly on the post–October 7 world. For the Jewish community, it was difficult to comprehend the reaction that followed—in academia, on campuses, within human rights organizations, NGOs, and cultural institutions. Were you surprised by what happened after October 7, or did you see it coming all along?

Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Yes and no. I wasn’t surprised, but I was surprised by how widespread it was. It spread like a wildfire. My husband and I have spent many years in academia. We were familiar with the BDS movement. We were accustomed to hearing critical race theory narratives. I was used to pushback from organizations such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations and what I view as the broader Muslim Brotherhood infrastructure.

I knew these forces existed on American campuses. So I wasn’t surprised by the existence of these attitudes, but I was surprised by their reach and intensity. And, of course, I was saddened by it.

I must also say that I was pleasantly surprised by Israel’s resilience. At that moment, Israel set aside its internal political divisions and focused on the task at hand, and it has continued to do so. I have watched that with great admiration.

My hope is that Israel’s example will inspire Europeans and Americans — not by contributing to the rise in antisemitism that we have unfortunately witnessed, but by encouraging democratic nations to do what Israel has done: regain and nurture their foundational creed.

By that, I mean recovering a sense of doctrinal confidence and passing it on to future generations — young people who can answer fundamental questions such as: Why am I defending this place? What values am I preserving? What am I going to pass on to my children? What, ultimately, is worth sacrificing for?

Those are questions that Israel understands deeply. And I believe Europe and America need to recover that same sense of purpose and conviction.

UN Watch is proud to award Abnousse Shalmani, the brilliant French-Iranian journalist, author, and filmmaker who courageously confronts Islamism and defends human dignity, with the Per Ahlmark Award at its sold-out 2026 Gala Dinner on June 4th, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Full Speech (English Translation, Original in French Follows):

Ladies and gentlemen, officials included, thank you. It is an immense honor to receive this prize, and I can only try to live up to the pride it brings me.

There is one word that comes back, naggingly, every time Iran is discussed. In newsrooms, in the hushed salons of foreign ministries, at conferences where condescending experts explain the world to those who endure it.

That word is “complexity.” Complexity as a smokescreen. Complexity as an absolution. Complexity as an elegant way of saying: “The Iranians aren’t quite ready.” Ready for what? For freedom?

For democracy? For the basic rights we have claimed for ourselves since 1789 and which we deny to others in the name of a cultural relativism that is nothing but racism in a frock coat, contempt for the Iranians who have been executed, for protesters gunned down by weapons of war —men and women of every ethnic and religious background— simply calling for a change of regime.

Contempt, then, in all its forms. The contempt of the war correspondent who returns from Tehran with his authoritative analyses without ever questioning the nature of that authority. How many times has he dined with regime officials, congratulating himself on his own diplomatic subtlety?

There is something obscene about boasting of knowing Larijani, about calling him pragmatic, when we know that this man has, with his own voice, called for firmness against protesters whom the regime labeled enemies of God.

The pragmatism of executioners: that is the name cowards give to their own complacency. The contempt of think tanks that publish their convoluted papers. We are expected to read, with a straight face, that the demonstrations of December 2025 risked being counterproductive because they might provoke foreign interference.

That is the logic. Iranians demanding their freedom are treated as a destabilizing factor. Balance. But whose balance? The mullahs’? As if the real problem were not the murderous rule of the mullahs, but the potential media coverage of their downfall, which might prove useful to Israel.

The real compass is the anti-Western agenda. What Iranians don’t understand is why the West refuses to confront a regime that funds Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria; a regime that has ordered attacks on European soil and assassinated its opponents in Paris, Berlin, and Stockholm.

What the Iranians would like to hear on everyone’s lips is this: “Next year in Tehran via Tel Aviv.”

Because that would mean the end of Middle Eastern chaos, the return of the 3,000 year old understanding between Persians and Jews, and the resumption of the kinship that came to an abrupt halt with the Khomeini revolution in 1979.

47 years of rupture imposed by the mullah regime: what is that compared to 2,600 years of shared history since the day Cyrus the Great freed the Jews from Babylon? The kinship has never died out, and it will burst forth into broad daylight of truth as soon as the mullahs and the Revolutionary Guards are gone.

I am certain of it.

And why do we meet the Iranians’ cries for freedom with this unbearable silence? The answer is simple: we are afraid. Afraid of the Islamists, afraid of the judgment of those who see any support for the Iranians as implicit support for America or Israel.

This is not prudence, nor diplomacy, but contempt. And contempt, in foreign policy as in personal morality, is always a form of complicity. Let us speak, then, of this anti-Western agenda that dominates the institution supposedly entrusted, since 1945, with defending humanism everywhere, on every last patch of earth: the UN.

That every voice should have a say at the table of the world is part of a welcome development. However laudable the principle of automatic rotation may look on paper, it does not require us to accept leadership positions being handed out with no regard whatsoever for human-rights standards — a system that, in practice, systematically places geopolitical balance above values. And not just any values.

Saudi Arabia’s unanimous election, by the 45 members of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, to chair that very commission in 2024. As early as January 2003, Gaddafi’s Libya had already been elected to chair the Commission on Human Rights by 33 votes in favor, 3 against, and 17 abstentions.

Since 2015, the General Assembly has adopted 155 resolutions against Israel, while, during the same period, there have been—brace yourselves—0 resolutions, I said 0 resolutions, against China, Cuba, or Venezuela.

And yet, only 8 resolutions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. 24 against Russia—what a joke. 10 against the United States—that is what they call the balance of power. Since 1948, the Security Council has adopted 229 resolutions concerning Israel, dealing with settlements, the status of Jerusalem, and the return of Palestinian refugees.

With more than 50% of all Human Rights Council resolutions, 86% of General Assembly condemnations between 2012 and 2015, and 100%—I repeat, 100%—of specific UNESCO resolutions, Israel is the subject of an obviously obsessive focus that far exceeds the attention directed against all authoritarian regimes combined, resulting in the loss of credibility of the international organization that is supposed to be the world’s humanitarian watchdog.

And meanwhile, thousands are dying in Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Iran, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and I’m leaving others out. After the Taliban’s return in 2021, we heard talk of “moderate” Taliban.

For many in the West, it has become self-evident that one must negotiate with the mullah regime in the name of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and so much for the freedom of the Iranian people. We are still debating whether to negotiate with Islamists. The pride in killing, the enjoyment of violent death, the refusal to lay down arms and accept defeat: these are the very definition of an Islamist terrorist group.

To imagine that a future of peace is possible with men who believe only in destruction is a terrifying illusion, an admission of cowardice, and an abandonment of humanism. There are 15.7 million Jews in the world. 7.2 million live in Israel, 6.3 million in the United States, 27,000 in Arab-Muslim countries, including 10,000 in Iran, and 440,000 in France.

Since the pogroms of October 7, antisemitic acts have skyrocketed around the world. The expression of antisemitism has shed its inhibitions, as though the massacre of men, women, and children, the torture, the mutilations, the rapes—filmed with enthusiasm by terrorists delighted to have fulfilled their duty of total annihilation, had given permission to the ordinary person whose antisemitism had been quietly snoring away to express his hatred in broad daylight.

And because this hatred finds justification in the speeches of politicians whose opportunism is matched only by their conviction, and of rancid, Holocaust-denying intellectuals, they pile on with words, deeds, and shouting. They draw up lists of Zionists to be economically destroyed — while waiting for a better solution.

Antisemites no longer hide; they are proud and praised; they are courted. Post–October 7 anti-Zionism is antisemitism with the mask finally off. Antisemitism is a challenge thrown in the face of liberal democracy.

Antisemitism is the moral victory of Islamism in the West. There is one country—just one, not two, not three—that serves as a refuge for Jews. One single country of which the world demands a proportionate response to a pogrom.

There is one country, one alone, not two, not three, that is in the crosshairs of every international organization, guilty by birth, guilty of existing. Israel’s great sin is that it is populated by Jews. If we want to avoid the day when I have to begin a speech with: “Once upon a time, there was a country called Israel,” then it is time to fight, truly fight, against antisemitism, which is anti-humanism and which tomorrow will be our collective shame.

Thank you very much.

Merci beaucoup.

UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer has been named to ORA Magazine’s list of 18 trailblazers, a feature spotlighting individuals shaping the future of public life, culture, and Jewish identity.

ORA’s honorees are people who are “not just in the headlines but are shaping what happens next” — thinkers, creators, and builders whose work helps define where ideas and society are heading. The list highlights individuals who influence art, media, design, and public life, and who move between Jewish identity and the wider world with confidence and conviction. The magazine selects “the brightest lights who in every generation shine and shape what comes next.”

In its profile of Neuer, ORA highlights his leadership of UN Watch and his efforts to challenge bias and expose human rights abuses within international institutions. The magazine recognizes Neuer as “a leading voice for accountability on the global stage” and praises his willingness to confront authoritarian regimes and double standards at the United Nations. ORA writes that Neuer “brings moral clarity into rooms built on diplomacy, refusing to let silence stand in for truth.”

The list also includes prominent figures from a range of fields, including activist Mandana Dayani, author and public intellectual Gad Saad, and musician and activist Chantae Vetrice.

UN Watch is honored to see Hillel Neuer and our organization recognized as among the brightest lights whose ideas, creativity, and convictions are helping shape the future.

The ORA 18

In every issue, ORA honors 18 trailblazers who illuminate the intersection of art, identity, and influence. We look for the people who aren’t just in the headlines but are shaping what happens next. The ORA 18 is a snapshot of that shift, the thinkers, creators, and builders whose work defines where culture is actually going.

These are the people setting the tone in art, media, design, and public life. They build audiences from scratch. They start conversations no one else will touch. They move between Jewish identity and the wider world without asking for permission. Together, they form a constellation: a map of where creativity, courage, and cultural power meet. This is the ORA 18. The brightest lights in a world that cannot look away.

“Every generation has its lights who shine and shape what comes next.”

Marketer/Activist
Rising through both independent and label-backed releas- es, she has built a following with raw, thought-pro- voking lyrics and striking visuals, while also working as a model and creative collaborator. Openly proud of her journey, Chantae converted to Judaism after years of spiritual exploration and speaks unapologetically about her identity as a Black Jewish Zionist, often in the face of criticism.

ORA FACTOR: She brings a new, fearless voice to Jewish identity, using music and visibility to challenge stereotypes and expand what it means to belong.

For the first time ever, in wake of UN Watch’s advocacy, Germany, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Latvia withheld support for renewing UNRWA’s mandate, in a recent vote at the UN General Assembly. Germany’s Der Spiegel called it a “remarkable political shift.” And in a second vote on UNRWA, those six EU countries were further joined by Austria, Romania and Lithuania. In previous years, all 27 EU states had voted in favor of these resolutions.

Two months before the vote, UN Watch delivered parliamentary testimony and appeared in the media in Germany and Italy, releasing a major report that exposed UNRWA’s terror ties. In addition, UN Watch launched the UNRWA Terror Network, an interactive platform mapping the infiltration of UNRWA by terrorists, which was covered on the front page of Germany’s Die Welt.

Executive Director Hillel Neuer spoke in the German Parliament and at a Berlin press conference to present UN Watch’s report, Schools in the Grip of Terror. UN Watch’s revelations were reported by Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Berliner Morgenpost, and other newspapers. In Italy, Neuer spoke at the Senate in Rome to present UN Watch’s evidence, and was interviewed live on RAI, Italy’s national broadcaster. UN Watch’s report on UNRWA terror ties was also covered by La Stampa, Il Tempo, and Il Riformista.

Following UN Watch’s campaign backed by 120,000 signatures, on July 9th U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sanctions against the UN’s pro-Hamas rapporteur Francesca Albanese — the first such action ever taken against a UN official.

Albanese is now blocked by the global financial system, unable to open a bank account, use a credit card, or receive payments. She was barred entry to America, which put an end to her anti-Israel campus lecture tours that last year saw her spew hate at Georgetown, Princeton and Barnard.

In interviews, Albanese says the sanctions have been “devastating” to her, and that they are having a “chilling effect” on other UN officials who think twice before criticizing Israel.

A rare moment of truth at the UN.

In July, days after the U.S. announced sanctions on UN rapporteur Francesca Albanese, the Chair of the UN’s anti-Israel Commission of Inquiry suddenly announced her resignation. Navi Pillay, who has a daughter and grandchild living in New York, reportedly feared being sanctioned and denied entry into America. Fellow commissioner Miloon Kothari, who was previously condemned by 18 countries after his rant about the “the Jewish Lobby controlling social media,” also resigned. UN Watch had waged a massive campaign exposing the egregious anti-Israel bias of Pillay and her commission.

UN Watch led a coalition of 30 courageous human rights groups to host the 17th annual Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy, gathering family members of political prisoners, and turning a rare global spotlight on regimes such as Iran, China, Russia, Cuba, Eritrea, Afghanistan, Venezuela, and Sudan.

GENEVA, September 3, 2025 — United Nations Watch today announced the election of The Honourable Linda Frum, former Canadian Senator, journalist, and author, as Chair of its Governing Board.

The Honourable Linda Frum served in the Senate of Canada from 2009 to 2021, where she was recognized as a principled voice for human rights, freedom, and democracy, standing up against antisemitism and in defense of victims of dictatorial regimes from China to Cuba. A fierce advocate for human rights in Iran, she co-sponsored Iran Accountability Week on Parliament Hill, and was a leading force in the Canadian Parliament in support of Iranian human rights defenders such as Masih Alinejad. She strongly advocated to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in its entirety as a terrorist entity, and for laws to sanction regime perpetrators sheltering in Canada.

Ms. Frum is a former contributing editor to Maclean’s magazine, and was a columnist with the National Post. She has authored two bestselling books, Linda Frum’s Guide to Canadian Universities and Barbara Frum: A Daughter’s Memoir. She is also a Gemini-Award winning documentarian.

In 2022, Ms. Frum chaired the Board of Directors of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, one of North America’s leading Jewish community organizations. She has been a member of the UN Watch Board since 2021. She holds honorary doctorates from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Yeshiva University.

Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, welcomed the election:

“Linda Frum has demonstrated throughout her career an unwavering commitment to moral clarity and human rights. She brings a unique combination of public service, community leadership, and courage in confronting antisemitism and defending democratic values. Her guidance will be invaluable as UN Watch strengthens its work to hold the UN accountable and to defend the principles of human rights and democracy worldwide.”

Linda Frum said:

“It is a profound honor to be entrusted with the role of Chair at UN Watch, an organization whose voice has long stood for truth, justice, and integrity at the United Nations. Facing the perilous threats of authoritarianism and antisemitism, UN Watch plays a vital role in defending universal values and giving voice to those who are silenced. I look forward to supporting Hillel Neuer and the board in advancing this essential mission.”

UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer joined Fox Business with Cheryl Casone to discuss Israel’s looming operations in Gaza, the fate of hostages still held by Hamas, and the UN’s ongoing failures.

Cheryl Casone, Fox Business: I want to bring in UN Watch Executive Director, Hillel Neuer. Hillel, I want to get your reaction to this, because we knew this was coming. The Cabinet had already approved for the complete takeover of Gaza, Gaza City, but it looks like we may see some pretty major operations underway within the next 24 to 48 hours in Gaza.

Hillel Neuer: That’s right. Look, folks have to remember that Israel is sitting next door to a terrorist organization that is armed and financed by the Islamic regime in Iran, that is holding dozens of hostages — some living, some dead — and has sworn to repeat the assault that they perpetrated on October 7, two years ago, nearly two years ago, where they massacred more than a thousand people, families, and committed atrocities, and they threatened to do it again. They still fire rockets at Israel when they can.

So Israel has an obligation to push back. There’s a stronghold in Gaza City. Of course, there’s a dilemma in Israel, there’s a terrible dilemma: do you defeat Hamas and root them out, as you need to do, but at the same time, you have to do everything not to harm the hostages. And that’s why Israel’s Prime Minister announced that he was going to instruct his negotiators to engage fully diplomatically to seek to negotiate the release of the hostages.

Cheryl Casone: But Hamas has been completely unwilling for all these years to negotiate, and there were releases, but at this point, those last living hostages seem to be the only bargaining chip that Hamas has left. Do you think they’re even going to use that chip at all? Or do you think that it is a worst-case scenario where, unfortunately, if the IDF gets close enough to where the hostages are, that Hamas would indeed kill them?

Hillel Neuer: Well, tragically, that is what happened last year, and many people in Israel painfully remember when some of the hostages were executed, exactly as you said, as Israel got closer. So look, this is a vicious terrorist organization. They’re not new at this modus operandi. Let’s recall 25 years ago: Hamas unleashed suicide bombers, which were blowing up dozens and dozens of suicide bombs in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, in pizza shops, in discotheques and so forth, blowing up buses.

This is a nihilistic death cult. They are holding onto hostages, in part to torture them, but also to create a rift between Israelis, because a large part of Israelis say: “Do everything to release the hostages,” and others say: “Yes, but we also have to defeat Hamas.” So it’s a horrible dilemma, and one wouldn’t want to be any of Israel’s cabinet ministers having to make that decision.

Cheryl Casone: Well, Israel is accusing the United Nations of misleading the world, as aid in Gaza is being stolen and diverted from civilians. It seems that Hamas has been doing this for months. A review conducted by the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities is claiming that UN figures have failed to account for the entry of about 6,000 additional aid trucks since May. They write: “The fact that the U.N. presents only part of the aid actually transferred misleads the international community and creates a false picture of the situation, directly influencing global media coverage and shaping the positions of international decision-makers regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza.” Hillel, your reaction to that statement?

Hillel Neuer: Well, it’s tragic. You know, the UN is meant to be the world’s primary humanitarian organization, and yet, we’ve seen in the past two years, in this case and others, that systematically, they have mobilized to parrot the narrative that is pushed out by Hamas. Whatever is the Hamas narrative, you will see it days later, endorsed by UN agencies, and that goes into the media ecosystem, as quoted by the UN — “the UN said.”

So indeed, as you said, the UN is saying only 3,000 trucks have entered Gaza since May. The reality is it’s 9,000 trucks. They failed to count 6,000 because they weren’t brought in by the UN. Well, guess what? The U.S. and Israel have been backing the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, an alternative to the UN, which is now giving up to two million meals a day, and the UN sees that as a threat, especially their agency, UNRWA, which is complicit with Hamas. The heads of UNRWA in Gaza and Lebanon and other places are actual Hamas members. So they are mobilized in a way that is failing to uphold the UN’s humanitarian principles.

“Israel sits next door to a nihilistic death cult, armed by Iran, that still fires rockets and vows to repeat October 7. Israel must save the hostages and defeat Hamas. How to achieve both is a terrible dilemma.”

UN Watch's @HillelNeuer on @FoxBusiness today with @cherylcasone: pic.twitter.com/AA78qPNU2e

Cheryl Casone: What is so interesting is if you listen to the UN, they’ll say: “Well, we’re the ones that should be handling the aid. We’re the experts. We’re the people that know how to do this.” That’s their pushback. Does that ring hollow to you?

Hillel Neuer: Well, it does, because, you know, with UNRWA, that’s the primary agency in Gaza, it’s meant to be the UN agency for Palestinians. They employ 13,000 staff. The UN will say: “Only UNRWA can distribute food.” Well, why is that? You know, Israel says, and there’s strong evidence, that there are thousands of members of UN staff who belong to Hamas. When Hamas took over Gaza, they infiltrated the entire UNRWA. We have a report, UN Watch, next month, showing that teachers, school principals, heads of the unions overseeing thousands of UNRWA staff are leading Hamas terror chiefs. And the UN says: “Only we can give out aid.” So what you have is, actually, they are disguising a pathological agenda, because UNRWA tells Palestinians that their mission is to dismantle Israel, and they wrap that as a humanitarian agency. When any other group, like the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, is giving out two million meals, they see that as an existential threat.

Cheryl Casone: Before you go, I want to ask you about the story. This senior World Bank Group economist is lobbing accusations at political leaders for their stance on Israel, yesterday. During an Italian Parliament forum, the economist publicly accused Italy of supporting genocide against Palestinians. UN Watch is now calling on the World Bank Group to fire him because of these antisemitic statements. I know you’ve been following that story. What can you tell us?

Hillel Neuer: Look, yesterday, our organization, UN Watch, sent a letter to the president of the World Bank demanding that they terminate a senior economist of theirs named Massimiliano Cali. He happens to be the husband of Francesca Albanese, who is a known pro-Hamas, UN figure who was sanctioned last month by the United States, and she’s barred entry into the U.S. And he, in his own part, has been working for over a decade for the World Bank. At the same time, on his Facebook page, he calls for the indictment of Netanyahu, accuses him of massacres. He endorses a pro-Hamas initiative. He compares Israelis to Nazis.

And as you said, he recently stood up in the Italian Parliament while his wife was accusing Israel of genocide. He parroted her remarks. He called on the EU to break their trade pact with Israel. All of this is in gross violation of the World Bank’s basic rules. We wrote to Secretary Rubio yesterday and said: “America is a top donor to the World Bank. If you have their officials embracing a Hamas narrative, acting in a way that is completely contrary to how an international civil servant is supposed to behave, that person should be fired.”

Cheryl Casone: Hillel, thank you so much for the perspective. We’re obviously going to be following any breaking news developments out of Israel and Gaza over the next couple of days, as that thing seems to be really moving now. Thank you, sir, for being here.

Hillel Neuer: Thank you.

Francesca Albanese has revealed that UN Secretary-General António Guterres has not spoken to her since the U.S. announced its unprecedented decision to sanction the so-called UN human rights expert.

Asked in an interview with the pro-Hamas Middle East Eye if Guterres had reached out to her, a visibly upset Albanese responded: “Never! Never heard from him. No — Not now, not before. And I don’t think after.”

The admission exposes the icy relations between Guterres and Albanese that were first brought to light by former U.S. Special Envoy on Antisemitism, Deborah Lipstadt, who said that the Secretary-General privately called Francesca Albanese a “horrible person.”

Guterres Failed to Denounce Her

Yet despite this private disdain, Guterres has failed to act on repeated calls by the United States government, and by UN Watch, to remove Albanese from her post following condemnations for antisemitism by the U.S., France, Germany, and Canada, nor has the UN chief been willing to even make a statement denouncing her violations of the UN code of conduct.

“The United States strongly opposed the renewal of Ms. Albanese’s appointment earlier this year, warning the Secretary-General that it would demonstrate a disregard for the code of conduct for Special Rapporteurs and bring further disgrace to the United Nations,” said the U.S. Mission to the UN in a statement.

“Ms. Albanese’s malignant antisemitism and support for terrorism is conduct which renders her unfit to serve as Special Rapporteur… The United States reiterates our request that the Secretary-General directly condemn Ms. Albanese’s activities and call for her removal as Special Rapporteur. The lack of such action to date has enabled Ms. Albanese to pursue her campaign of economic warfare targeting entities across the world.”

By enabling Albanese’s reappointment in April 2025 and refusing to take action against Albanese’s hate, terrorism support, and financial misconduct, Guterres has allowed the world body to reach a new level of shame.

When appeals were made for you to temporarily grant asylum to the innocent civilians of Gaza, why did you say no?

If weeks after Russia’s invasion, Poland welcomed 1.3 million Ukrainians; if in the last two years, 3 million Sudanese were taken in by their neighbors; Turkey took in 3.7 million Syrians; then we ask you: Egypt, why haven’t you shown the same basic humanity for your neighbors, for your own Arab and Muslim brothers?

If you care for the people of Gaza, why won’t you offer them temporary asylum, as so many other nations in this room have done for their neighbors facing a humanitarian emergency?

Now, the masses were abandoned. But you did allow some to cross your sealed border. But why did you force these refugees to pay thousands of dollars—and why to a company linked to Egyptian state security and your president, al-Sisi—profiting over $100 million off their desperation?

Do you really care for the people of Gaza?”
