Analysis
- The resolution extends the mandates of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran as well as the Fact-Finding Mission on Iran, both of which are opposed by Iran. Iran rejected the resolution as "politicized" and called on UNHRC members to vote against it.
- Moreover, the resolution was adopted under Item 4, the primary framework for addressing country-specific human rights situations, signaling criticism.
- Regrettably, however, the resolution is only a short, procedural text. Unlike the UNGA’s annual resolution on Iran, there is no description of Iran’s violations.
