The Pillay Report Under Scrutiny

UN Watch Side Event

On June 13, 2022, as the United Nations in Geneva debates the Pillay Report, the controversial new document came under scrutiny by a panel of renowned experts at a UN Watch event held on the sidelines of the Human Rights Council. See video above.

The Pillay Report, released this week, offers a blueprint of what is to come from the U.N. Commission of Inquiry, chaired by Navi Pillay, which was granted a perpetual mandate to report annually in Geneva and New York on alleged war crimes and discrimination in wake of last year’s Hamas-Israel war.

The report turns a blind eye to Palestinian terrorism and embraces the Hamas narrative that Israel is the root cause of all conflict.

Many expected a biased report given that commission chair Navi Pillay has a record of lobbying governments to ‘sanction apartheid Israel’. In addition, she declared Israel guilty in the very conflict of last year that she is meant to investigate. To read UN Watch’s request for Navi Pillay to recuse herself, click here.

Navi Pillay Lobbies to Boycott 'Apartheid Israel'—She Can't Chair UN's Israel Inquiry

Navi Pillay is on record calling Israel an “apartheid state,” has campaigned to boycott and sanction Israel, and signs statements lobbying governments to punish the Jewish state.

It is therefore a travesty of justice for her to serve as Chair of the new United Nations inquiry into last spring’s Hamas-Israel war. She must resign immediately, or be removed.

Accordingly, we are calling on Ms. Pillay to recuse herself. In the event that she refuses to do so, we request Federico Villegas, the President of the Human Rights Council, to remove her.
