UN TESTIMONY

Ahmed Batebi

Ahmed Batebi

Ahmad Batebi is an Iranian human rights activist. Arrested after a photo of him at a protest holding the blood splattered T-shirt of a fellow demonstrator featured on the cover of the Economist magazine, Batebi was arrested by the Iranian regime and sentenced to death. The sentence was later commuted to 15 years. During his imprisonment his health deteriorated due to maltreatment, and while out for urgent medical care, he fled his captors, making his way to Iraq and eventually to the United States, where he founded the organization Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI).
