Pedro Urruchurtu

Pedro Urruchurtu is a Venezuelan political scientist, professor, and activist who serves as the Coordinator of International Affairs for Vente Venezuela, the political party of opposition leader María Corina Machado. He was one of several opposition figures who sought refuge in the Argentine embassy in Caracas, doing so after Nicolás Maduro’s government began persecuting the opposition campaign of Edmundo González Urrutia following the July 2024 election. Urruchurtu was held for over a year under a siege by pro-Maduro forces, but he and four colleagues successfully escaped the embassy in mid-2025.
