Abidine Merzough

Abidine Merzough is a Mauritanian activist and European Coordinator of the Initiative for the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement, an anti-slavery group and member of the UN’s Underrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation [UNPO]. During the imprisonment of his organisation’s founder, Biram Dah Abeid, in 2008, he became one of its principal spokespeople. He was interviewed by the BBC and in 2015 accepted an award of €100,000 on its behalf from the government of the Netherlands.
