UN Watch Elects The Honourable Linda Frum as Chair of its Board

PRESS RELEASE

GENEVA, September 3, 2025 — United Nations Watch today announced the election of The Honourable Linda Frum, former Canadian Senator, journalist, and author, as Chair of its Governing Board.

The Honourable Linda Frum served in the Senate of Canada from 2009 to 2021, where she was recognized as a principled voice for human rights, freedom, and democracy, standing up against antisemitism and in defense of victims of dictatorial regimes from China to Cuba. A fierce advocate for human rights in Iran, she co-sponsored Iran Accountability Week on Parliament Hill, and was a leading force in the Canadian Parliament in support of Iranian human rights defenders such as Masih Alinejad. She strongly advocated to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in its entirety as a terrorist entity, and for laws to sanction regime perpetrators sheltering in Canada.

Ms. Frum is a former contributing editor to Maclean’s magazine, and was a columnist with the National Post. She has authored two bestselling books, Linda Frum’s Guide to Canadian Universities and Barbara Frum: A Daughter’s Memoir. She is also a Gemini-Award winning documentarian.

In 2022, Ms. Frum chaired the Board of Directors of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, one of North America’s leading Jewish community organizations. She has been a member of the UN Watch Board since 2021. She holds honorary doctorates from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Yeshiva University.

Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, welcomed the election:

“Linda Frum has demonstrated throughout her career an unwavering commitment to moral clarity and human rights. She brings a unique combination of public service, community leadership, and courage in confronting antisemitism and defending democratic values. Her guidance will be invaluable as UN Watch strengthens its work to hold the UN accountable and to defend the principles of human rights and democracy worldwide.”

Linda Frum said:

“It is a profound honor to be entrusted with the role of Chair at UN Watch, an organization whose voice has long stood for truth, justice, and integrity at the United Nations. Facing the perilous threats of authoritarianism and antisemitism, UN Watch plays a vital role in defending universal values and giving voice to those who are silenced. I look forward to supporting Hillel Neuer and the board in advancing this essential mission.”
