An Alliance of Contempt: Tistounet Honors Jean Ziegler

UN Watch’s report exposes the role of United Nations Human Rights Council expert Jean Ziegler in founding the Muammar Qaddafi Human Rights Prize. Recipients of the award include Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, rabid antisemite Louis Farrkhan and convicted French Holocaust denier Roger Garaudy. That same year, Ziegler himself won the prize.

Ziegler had long-standing contempt for UN Watch. Evidence from UN Whistleblower, Emma Reilly, indicates that he would often come to the NGO liaison office, request and receive copies of UN Watch speeches in advance of the Human Rights Council meetings. Ms. Reilly details how under Tistounet employees were ‘instructed to provide’ all this seemingly excessive information while ‘no other NGO was targeted in this manner, and no other mandate holder was accorded this favour’, proving Tistounet’s honour for Ziegler.

Tistounet further participated in a panel honoring the controversial Qaddafi supporter, who in turn wrote the preface to one of Tistounet’s novels.
