CNN’s Christiane Amanpour reported on the campaign to free jailed Hong Kong newspaper owner Jimmy Lai that was organized last week by UN Watch’s Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy, with the participation of lawmakers and human rights activists worldwide.
Lai, who was convicted on Thursday for backing a vigil last year for victims of China’s Tiananmen Square Massacre, has been languishing in prison for running a newspaper in Hong Kong that dared to criticize the Chinese regime.
The Geneva Summit campaign saw dozens of parliamentarians and human rights defenders to send a #LettertoLai on his birthday, to show the courageous dissident that he is not forgotten—and to give him strength.
