UN Watch in the News — December 2025

UN Watch was quoted by media outlets around the world in December 2025 on numerous topics, including our reporting that UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese is no longer listed among Georgetown University’s affiliated scholars.

Featured in The National Post, “Hillel Neuer: UN prostitutes itself to dictators looking to end western sanctions,” December 4, 2025:

Opinion by Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch:

Murderous regimes are making a mockery of the UN and the very idea of human rights. More alarming, however, is that our democratic leaders are doing little to push back. Fearful of challenging the UN, few if any western officials have ever called out Jazairy or Douhan for pandering to murderous regimes. And some are even helping the despots. When the delegates from Iran, Russia and North Korea gather to inaugurate the UN’s International Day against Unilateral Coercive Measures, the opening address will be delivered by Annalena Baerbock, the former German foreign minister who now serves as president of the UN General Assembly. Never mind that in her prior role she helped enforce German and EU sanctions against many of the despotic regimes that will be attending.

Quoted in Deutsche Welle, “Japan raises its UN presence to counter China’s influence,” December 18, 2025:

In July 2024, a report issued by the UN Watch NGO claimed “the UN is broken” after another review of its human rights record. The report added, “China and other autocracies have hijacked the mechanism to create a platform for dictators to shower each other with praise and legitimize their rules as sanctioned by the UN.”

The organization U.N. Watch recently reported that U.N. Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese was removed from Georgetown’s list of affiliated scholars. U.N. Watch CEO Hillel Neuer posted on Dec. 21, “U.N. Hamas apologist Francesca Albanese has been removed from Georgetown University.” “Thank you, [Georgetown]. It’s time to expel all terror supporters from our universities,” Neuer wrote on X. Neuer also posted screenshots showing Albanese’s profile on the university’s website as it appeared before she was removed from the list, as well as an image of the page showing an error.

Quoted in The European Conservative, “Trump Weighs Terror Label for UNRWA Over Hamas Ties,” December 11, 2025:

Earlier reports indicate that the agency has long served as a platform for Hamas to radicalize Palestinian youth. Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, said that years of inadequate oversight have allowed Hamas to influence and radicalize an entire generation through UNRWA schools in Gaza. Neuer also criticized the agency for fostering political dependency and preventing genuine self-governance among Palestinians. Neuer pointed to his group’s reports on UNRWA hiring “Hamas terror chiefs” to run Gaza’s education system, and the celebration of the October 7th terror attacks by UNRWA teachers in Gaza.

Featured in Newsmax, “Georgetown Drops Albanese Amid Antisemitism Claims,” December 25, 2025:

Georgetown University has dropped its partnership with United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese following a report alleging her support for terrorism and antisemitism, according to UN Watch. Albanese is no longer listed on the university’s website, and her biography has also been removed. Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, said the organization welcomed Georgetown University’s decision. “Academic institutions have a responsibility to uphold basic standards of integrity and human dignity. Removing an official who has repeatedly trafficked in antisemitic rhetoric and justified terrorism is a necessary step toward restoring those standards,” he added.”This sends an important message,” Neuer added. “Positions of authority at the United Nations do not grant immunity from accountability, and universities should not serve as safe havens for those who abuse their platforms to promote hatred.”

Featured in The Jerusalem Post, “Georgetown University severs ties with UN’s Francesca Albanese over antisemitic remarks,” December 25, 2025:

The action taken by Georgetown University follows a significant campaign by UN Watch that highlighted Albanese’s support for terrorism and antisemitism. The UN Watch article mentioned a 60-page document compiled by UN Watch that details Albanese’s discriminatory remarks. For over six months, UN Watch has been advocating for Georgetown University to remove Albanese from its faculty. Hillel Neuer, the Executive Director of UN Watch, praised and welcomed the university’s decision in a celebratory post on X/twitter, stating, “Thank you, [Georgetown]. It’s time to expel all supporters of terrorism from our universities.”

Quoted in Il Giornale, “Albanese’s UN nomination is shaky: rules for second term violated,” December 8, 2025:

It all stems from a complaint filed with UN officials by Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, a UN-accredited NGO. During his previous assignment (2022-2025), Albanese allegedly repeatedly violated the Code of Conduct imposed on UN consultants. The violations reportedly involved anti-Semitic positions taken in public speeches, tweets supporting Hamas terrorists, and participation in two missions to New Zealand and Australia paid for by NGOs close to Hamas. A 56-page dossier documents “Albanese’s serious and systematic violations of the Code, including breaches of impartiality, integrity, and moderation, the receipt of which was duly confirmed by the Office of the President.” These behaviors would have required the UN to open an investigation into the rapporteur before proceeding with a possible renewal of her assignment. However, no investigation took place, effectively bending the rules.

Featured in The Jewish Chronicle, “Francesca Albanese ‘removed’ as affiliated scholar of Georgetown University,” December 24, 2025:

According to UN Watch – an independent, Geneva-based non-governmental organisation that monitors the world body – the move follows its own campaign launched earlier this year “exposing Albanese’s support for terrorism and antisemitism” and urging the Washington-based University to drop her from their roster. Screenshots captured by UN Watch show that Albanese was previously the first name to appear on the “Other Affiliated Scholars” page of Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of International Migration, and also had a separate bio page – both of which now appear to have been wiped from the website.

Featured in Israel National News, “Georgetown University drops anti-Israel UN rapporteur,” December 24, 2025:

Georgetown University has removed UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese from its list of affiliated scholars, UN Watch, the Geneva-based NGO that monitors the United Nations, said in a statement on Monday…The decision by Georgetown follows months of advocacy by UN Watch, which documented Albanese’s antisemitic rhetoric and defense of terrorism in a 60-page report. The watchdog organization had been calling for her removal for more than six months.

Quoted in the Times of Israel, “Georgetown University drops UN’s Albanese due to US sanctions,” December 29, 2025:

Albanese, an Italian national, has been removed from Georgetown’s list of affiliated scholars and her biography page has been dropped from the university website. Archived web pages show that the changes were made in recent months. Her removal from Georgetown’s directory was first reported last week by UN Watch, a monitor that has campaigned against Albanese.

Quoted in JNS, “Francesca Albanese ‘no longer affiliated’ with school, Georgetown says,” December 26, 2025:

Albanese was an affiliated scholar at Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. That role didn’t make her a Georgetown employee, but it gave her access to school resources and certain opportunities for collaboration. UN Watch said earlier in the week that Georgetown removed Albanese’s biography from its website. It was not clear when that change occurred.

Quoted in the Jewish Onliner, “Amazon Potentially Violating Sanctions Over Francesca Albanese Book: Watchdogs,” December 31, 2025:

UN Watch, the Swiss-based organization that monitors the United Nations, sent Amazon a formal legal demand letter on October 30, 2025. Executive director Hillel Neuer reminded Amazon CEO Andy Jassy that the company faces significant exposure if it continues providing a platform for Albanese…Neuer asserted that Amazon’s conduct violates its “clear internal terms of use as well as external compliance obligations under U.S. sanctions laws—most notably under Executive Order 14203—which impose strict liability and expose violators to significant fines and penalties,” adding that “even unintentional violations expose Amazon to significant civil penalties.”

Quoted in Libero Quotidiano, “Francesca Albanese cheated: the dossier that could cost her her job,” December 8, 2025:

Last April, the special rapporteur for the occupied territories in Palestine obtained the green light for an encore but according to a document prepared by the German Hillel Neuer , executive director of UN Watch , an NGO accredited to the United Nations, “the Swiss ambassador Jürg Laube , president of the UN Human Rights Council, would have forced the United Nations rules to renew the mandate” of Albanese, writes Il Giornale.

Quoted in JNS, “Municipal officials raid UNRWA offices in northeastern Jerusalem,” December 9, 2025:

UN Watch, a Geneva-based NGO that monitors the anti-Israel agenda at the United Nations, earlier this year revealed that top UNRWA officials “routinely” meet with Lebanese and Gazan terror organizations, “mutually praise each other for ‘cooperation’ and describe each other as ‘partners.’”

Quoted in Libero Quotidiano, “Francesca Albanese removed from Georgetown website,” December 28, 2025:

The news of Albanese’s removal from Georgetown was released by UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer: “It’s time to expel all supporters of terrorism from universities. Academic institutions have a responsibility to uphold minimum standards of integrity and human dignity. Removing an official who has repeatedly used anti-Semitic rhetoric and justified terrorism,” Neuer emphasized, “is a necessary step to restore those standards.” The UN Watch director then added: “This isn’t just an internal university issue. This sends an important message. Positions of authority at the United Nations do not guarantee immunity from accountability, and universities must not become safe havens for those who abuse their platform to spread hate.”

Quoted in La Voce Di New York, “Georgetown University Removes Francesca Albanese from “Affiliated Scholars” List,” December 29, 2025:

UN Watch, a Swiss-based non-governmental organization that “monitors the performance of the United Nations according to the spirit of its Charter,” is now calling for Albanese to be removed from the humanitarian agency as well, following its pressure on Georgetown.

Quoted in Baritalia News, “UN in chaos: Albanese’s nomination now risks being scrapped due to irregularities, ‘The renewal was rigged,'” December 9, 2025:

This is supported by a dossier presented by Hillel Neuer , director of UN Watch, who denounces serious violations of the code of conduct by the rapporteur during her previous mandate 2022-2025. The 56-page document lists behaviors deemed incompatible with the role: positions considered anti-Semitic, tweets in support of Hamas members, and trips to New Zealand and Australia funded by organizations linked to the pro-Hamas movement.

Quoted in Agenzia Stampa Italia, “UAII National Congress: A New Commitment to Freedom Against Anti-Zionism,” December 2, 2025:

The congress endorsed the document on the Albanese case by the Committee of Jurists for Israel, which denounces serious irregularities in the reassignment of the UN mandate to Francesca Albanese, as highlighted by Hillel Neuer and UN Watch.
