UN Watch was quoted in media outlets around the world in October 2025 on numerous topics, including on the election of Pakistan, Egypt, Iraq, Vietnam and Angola to the Human Rights Council, as well as the election of Iran and China to the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council.

JD Vance has arrived here in Jerusalem. He and the Trump administration are taking the peace deal very seriously. The problem is that Hamas isn’t. You know, we are 13 days after Hamas signed the deal, promised that they would release all of the hostages, living and dead. As you indicated, they are still holding 13 dead hostages. Their excuses are ridiculous. The hostages, living or dead, are their main leverage. Of course, they know where they are. The fact is that Hamas has not released the hostages, they have not disarmed, and they were supposed to release the hostages within 72 hours. We’re 13 days laterm they haven’t released them, they haven’t disarmed. On the contrary, they are torturing and killing Palestinians they don’t like, executing them in cold blood. This isn’t the peace deal that Hamas and its backers, Turkey and Qatar, signed on to.

The Human Rights Council has its origins which are noble. Eleanor Roosevelt, the great humanitarian of the World War II era, was the founder of what was then called the Commission on Human Rights. Sadly, it went south, it got hijacked. By the year 2003, the chair was not Eleanor Roosevelt, it was the representative of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s brutal Libyan dictatorship. So, Eleanor Roosevelt to Gaddafi, the rise and fall of human rights at the UN. They had a reform 20 years ago, in 2006. They changed its name to the Human Rights Council and today, where are we with the reform? They just held elections again for their membership and they elected Egypt, which is a brutal authoritarian regime. They elected Iraq, they elected Pakistan, which is a horrible regime that persecutes Christians and other minority groups and supports terrorists. The week before, the Human Rights Council elected new experts, one is a longtime Chinese diplomat, and one was an Iranian diplomat. These are experts on their advisory committee. There are democracies there, but they’re often in the minority, and often the dictatorships dominate. So, a human rights body that was meant to preserve individual freedoms, whose principles are noble, has been largely hijacked by dictatorships, and we need to speak out.

Look, if the ICJ says they can’t find evidence that UNRWA lacks impartiality and neutrality, it means they weren’t looking. Because, as you indicated, we just released a report of 200 pages of evidence showing that the head of UNRWA’s staff union, 13,000 staff in Gaza, was Suhail al-Hindi…He’s one of the Hamas terror chiefs and he wasn’t hiding it…The head of the UNRWA teachers union in Lebanon, Fateh Sharif, was the head of Hamas in Lebanon…For at least 10 years, on Facebook, our report, available at unwatch.org, shows how they openly posted, boasted, and were very proud of the fact that they were members and leaders of Hamas. And it’s not just two people. We have a network map coming out next which will show 500 UNRWA staff members and their links to terrorism, either members of terrorism, Hamas terror chiefs, and the like, or calling to murder Jews. So the notion that there’s no evidence is, frankly, just absurd.

We were watching UNRWA over the years. We knew that many of the teachers were regularly inciting antisemitism, jihadi murder in the name of Allah, praise for Adolf Hitler, and other kinds of incitement to terrorism and antisemitism. We had exposed that for ten years. UNRWA’s typical response was not to take action, not to fire those who promote terrorism a the classroom, but to attack us. Now when October 7th happened, we began to do more research, and our recent report, called Schools in the Grip of Terror, a 200-page report, reveals in detail how the heads of the UNRWA education system, a teacher school principal, and the head of the teachers’ union in Gaza, Suhail al-Hindi, was also a Hamas terror chief. This is know information, UNRWA knew about it, they did nothing. They allowed a member of the Hamas Political Bureau who is in pictures with Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of the October 7th massacre, to run their 13,000-employee union in Gaza. Same in Lebanon. A teacher, school principal, head of 2,000 members of the teacher’s union, a guy named Fateh al-Sharif, was the head of Hamas in Lebanon.
Quoted in BBC News Vietnam, “Should Vietnam Be Admitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council?,” October 13, 2025:
Unlike previous years, this year’s election “has no competition in any of the five regional groups, meaning every candidate is almost certain to win, despite their very poor human rights records,” according to the non-governmental organization United Nations Watch…“Electing serial human rights violators as UN ‘judges’ on human rights is like turning a gang of arsonists into a fire brigade,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch. “It would be a slap in the face to countless victims of human rights abuses – including political prisoners, persecuted journalists and exploited child labourers,” Mr Neuer added, stressing that it would be tantamount to “the fox guarding the henhouse”.
Quoted in Fox News, “Uproar as UN Elects China and Iran to Human Rights Council Positions: ‘Without Shame,’” October 10, 2025:
Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, told Fox News Digital, “The U.N. elected Beijing’s and Tehran’s loyal agents as ‘human rights experts’—without a ballot, without shame. These regimes persecute minorities, jail anyone who speaks freely, and rule through fear and censorship.”
Quoted in Il Riformista, “The UN Has Been Reduced to a Sounding Board for Francesca Albanese (and Disinformation About Israel) and Is a Victim of the Role That Dictatorships Play in the Council,” October 9, 2025:
During a press conference organized by Senator Giulio Terzi in the Senate on September 18, Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, an NGO highly active at the UN Human Rights Council, demonstrated how Albanese has long been acting within and outside the United Nations in violation of the rules governing her role as UN Special Rapporteur. Neuer extensively detailed the rapporteur’s lack of objectivity, independence, integrity, and neutrality, her statements inciting violence, and the opaque funding sources associated with some of her travels and conferences.
Featured in the National Post, “Hillel Neuer: UN’s latest anti-Israel commission must be dismantled,” October 27, 2025:
On Tuesday, a UN commission of inquiry on Israel will yet again present a report accusing the Jewish state of genocide. Days later, all three members will step down. Instead of replacing them, however, the UN would better serve the cause of humanity and peace by terminating a commission that is prejudiced in favour of Hamas, redundant to numerous other UN mechanisms, and in an era of deep UN austerity, a symbol of moral and fiscal waste…The distinct bias of the inquiry was further made clear by who the UN chose as its members. Pillay, before being chosen as the supposedly impartial chair, had openly lobbied governments to “sanction apartheid Israel.” On an anti-Israel website, commissioner Miloon Kothari gave an interview questioning Israel’s right to UN membership, and ranting about “the Jewish lobby” that is “controlling social media.” The third, Chris Sidoti, trivialized the issue of antisemitism, claiming that Jews “throw around accusations like rice at a wedding.”
Quoted in Express, “Trump Opens Door for China to Take Over Weakened United Nations, Expert Fears,” October 12, 2025:
Hillel Neuer of UN Watch said Washington was right to question the UN’s value but warned that a total withdrawal could hand greater influence to non-democracies. “There is a dilemma,” he said. “If the US pulls out, China and its allies will move in. But if it stays, it continues to fund agencies that undermine Western values.”
Quoted in Bild, “China and Iran Join Human Rights Body,” October 8, 2025:
The UN-critical think tank “UN Watch” reacted with sarcasm: China’s dictator Xi Jinping (72) and Iran’s Supreme Mullah Ali Khamenei (86), who trample on human rights, can congratulate their candidates on their victory, commented its head, Hillel Neuer. The election of the two raises – once again – questions about the credibility of UN bodies.
Quoted in the Washington Examiner, “Gunning for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” October 2, 2025:
Hillel Neuer, executive director of U.N. Watch, a Geneva-based monitoring organization, told me, “If the U.N. truly respects humanitarian principles, then it should be working with any and all credible groups willing to deliver aid, regardless of politics. By blocking groups like the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, and by centralizing aid through Hamas-linked actors, U.N. agencies are not only enabling a terrorist organization, they’re abandoning the very civilians they claim to serve.”
Quoted in Il Giornale, “Francesca Albanese Introduces Herself as an ‘International Lawyer,’ but She Isn’t a Lawyer: Here’s How Things Stand,” October 2, 2025:
Yet for years the title of lawyer accompanied her career, opening doors and cementing her image as a prominent jurist. So much so that UN Watch, a watchdog critical of the United Nations, dedicated an investigation with the unequivocal title: ” Francesca Albanese’s Lies About Legal Credentials Raise Serious Ethical Concerns .” The accusation: having used misleading credentials to boost her international profile.
Quoted in Fox News, “Trump’s Swipe at ‘Weak’ Leaders Highlights the Shifting Global Influence of Western Nations,” October 15, 2025:
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch warned, “Israel is finally seeing the hostages come home, and perhaps the guns fall silent. But let the world remember: this could have ended long ago if many around the world — from U.N. officials to so-called human rights groups like Amnesty International — had not spent two years justifying Hamas instead of confronting it.”
Quoted in the Berliner Morgenpost, “‘Death cult’ in Gaza: Israel Exerts Pressure on a Key Issue,” October 15, 2025:
“The Federal Republic is currently the largest contributor to UNRWA with 200 million euros a year,” said Hillel Neuer, Managing Director of the Geneva-based pro-Israeli NGO “UN Watch”. At a recent briefing in Berlin, the Canadian lawyer emphasized: “The teachers of UNRWA are terrorist bosses.” What once began as an altruistic project, namely to educate the children in the Gaza Strip, is now ” corrupted through and through”. As evidence, Neuer presented research on several high-ranking UNRWA teachers.
Quoted in the Washington Examiner, “UN Cheers Trump’s Gaza Plan From the Sidelines, Seeks to Insert Itself Into Region’s Future,” October 9, 2025:
Hillel Neuer, an international lawyer and executive director of U.N. Watch, told the Washington Examiner that the U.N. never had a hand in any step of the peace process. “The U.N. was never involved, so that says a lot,” he told the Washington Examiner. “In previous times, there were occasions where certain U.N. officials were helpful in brokering peace and would sometimes use their good offices between warring parties — and here this was not the case…In Israel, there is zero trust for Guterres and most of the system.”
Quoted in the Korrespondent, “Iran and China Have Joined the UN Human Rights Council,” October 9, 2025:
UN Watch, a think tank critical of the UN, responded sarcastically: “Chinese dictator Xi Jinping and Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who themselves violate human rights, can congratulate their candidates on their victory,” said the head of the organization, Hillel Neuer. According to him, the election of these two representatives further undermines the credibility of the UN.
Quoted in The European Conservative, “Gaza Has No Chance of Peace Unless UNRWA Goes,” October 23, 2025:
Hillel Neuer, executive director of the monitoring group UN Watch, later stressed that while the court claimed there are just a few ‘bad apples’ involved in UNRWA’s operations, “the opposite is true.” Neuer pointed to his group’s reports on UNRWA hiring “Hamas terror chiefs” to run Gaza’s education system, the celebration of the October 7th terror attacks by (again) UNRWA teachers in Gaza, and Philippe Lazzarini’s—that is, the boss of UNRWA’s—“ties to Hamas terror chiefs.”
Quoted in the Washington Examiner, “UN Makes a Mockery of Human Rights as China and Iran Score Gig on Wayward Committee,” October 11, 2025:
Neuer told the Washington Examiner that one would expect democratic nations to oppose the growing influence of totalitarian regimes at the U.N., but they are more concerned with maintaining business as usual. “The other countries, [the ambassadors] typically go along to get along, all right?” he said. “That would explain much of how the U.N. works … they’re just like, ‘All right, now it’s your turn, China and Iran. They really care about for their propaganda to be on a human rights body. How about no one else will submit a candidate?’”
Quoted in Breitbart, “UN Special Rapporteur on Health Fined for Racist Rant Against ‘White Man,’” October 28, 2025:
Mofokeng had earlier used foul language on social media to attack Israel (“F** you Netanyahu”), and disparaged human rights advocate Hillel Neuer of the watchdog organization UN Watch in racist terms: “You white man. Evil scum. Voetsek [Afrikaans profanity for ‘Get lost’].”
Quoted in the American Thinker, “Hey Hey Ho Ho -– The UN has Got to Go!” October 20, 2025:
And let’s not forget Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, which the U.N. has condemned more than all other nations combined. Specifically, from 2015 through 2023, the U.N. General Assembly “adopted 154 resolutions against Israel and 71 against other countries,” according to UN Watch.
Featured in The Hub, “Need to Know: The World Is Forgetting What Happened on October 7th,” October 7, 2025:
By Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a human rights group in Geneva:
October 7, 2023, was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. An Iranian-backed army of thousands of Hamas terrorists from Gaza invaded Israel, murdering 1,200 men, women, and children, committing unspeakable atrocities, and kidnapping more than 250 people—babies to grandparents. For Israelis, it was not a “cycle of violence.” It was a pogrom. The shock was not only what happened that day, but what followed. Much of the world could not bring itself to say a simple moral truth: that the deliberate slaughter of Jews is evil. Within days, international organizations and media outlets shifted from horror to equivocation, from sympathy to “context,” from grief to blame. At the United Nations, no emergency session condemned Hamas. Instead, Israel—the country under attack—was put on trial.
Quoted in the Bangkok Post, “UN Picks Rights Council Members With Bad Records,” October 23, 2025:
“When the UN’s highest human rights body becomes a case of the foxes guarding the henhouse, the world’s victims suffer,” stated Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, a human rights monitor based in Geneva…According to UN Watch, already 56% of the UN Human Rights Council’s current members are not democracies, including such regimes as China, Cuba, Qatar, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Somalia and Vietnam. Now, Vietnam, as mentioned, is extending its three-year tenure. UN Watch’s Mr Neuer warned, “Regrettably, the European Union has not said a word about the hypocritical candidates that only undermine the credibility and effectiveness of the UN human rights system.”
Quoted in L’Opinione delle Libertà, “The Travels of Mrs. Albanese,” October 7, 2025:
It becomes difficult not to refute some of the statements and “actions” that have come to light thanks to the two complaints made by Un Watch – an organization based in Switzerland whose declared mission is to monitor the performance of the United Nations – against Ms. Francesca Albanese.
Featured in Hellas Journal, “Catapult Against Erdogan for Human Rights Violations: The Turks Tried to Censor an Internationally Renowned Lawyer Who ‘Burned’ the New Sultan,” October 7, 2025:
Hillel Neuer, Human Rights Lawyer at the international level, author and Executive Director of United Nations Watch, gave a strong lesson to the Turks, commenting on the speech of Islamist Tayyip Erdogan at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly…Neuer turned the tables, exposing Turkey’s history of repression, from jailed journalists to banned protests and imprisoned mayors.
Quoted in Martínoticias, “Mike Waltz at the UN: “Don’t Legitimize a Corrupt Dictatorship,” October 28, 2025:
Waltz’s speech received support from several voices internationally. Among them was Hillel Neuer , executive director of the Geneva-based organization UN Watch , who wrote on the X network (formerly Twitter): “Powerful speech now from US Ambassador Mike Waltz against the UN’s annual ritual of adopting a resolution from the Cuban regime condemning the United States, falsely portraying the criminal and corrupt junta in Havana as the victim when in reality it is the perpetrator.” UN Watch is an independent non-governmental organization that monitors the performance of the United Nations system and denounces human rights abuses committed by authoritarian regimes. Founded in 1993, it has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and has distinguished itself by exposing the presence of dictatorships in human rights bodies, including Cuba, Venezuela, China, and Iran.
Quoted in Juedische Rundschau, “Schools in The Grip of terror: UN Observer Publishes Hamas Capture of UNRWA Education System,” October 1, 2025:
Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN-Watch based in Geneva, Switzerland, presented a chilling report in September 2025. Titled “Schools in the Grip of Terror,” it demonstrates how Hamas leaders have openly controlled the education system of UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) for decades. Terror leaders are employed as school principals, union leaders, and senior educators, from where they shape the curriculum, supervise thousands of teachers, and transform classrooms into incubators of hate.
Quoted in l’Opinione, “Peace in Gaza, Einat Wilf Speaks: “UNRWA Is More Dangerous Than Hamas,” October 24, 2025:
Indeed, there are numerous reports, such as those by UN Watch, that prove links between UNRWA leaders and prominent members of Hamas. UNRWA is literally the infrastructure of “Palestinianism”: it educates Palestinians on the idea that Israel should not exist, on the myth of perpetual refugee status and of “return.”
Quoted in the Jerusalem Post, “The UN’s Descent into Jew-Hatred and Irrelevance – Opinion,” October 1, 2o25:
This bureaucratized the ongoing attempt to criminalize Israel. UN Watch statistics show, for example, that from 2015 through 2023, the General Assembly adopted 154 anti-Israel resolutions and only 71 – overall – against any other countries.
Quoted in Olcetto o Scherzetto, “Vaccarezza (FI): ‘Francesca Albanese in Genoa on October 7th? A Disgusting Provocation,'” October 6, 2025:
“Finally, I reiterate that in the coming weeks we will present the UN Watch report on Dr. Albanese to the Regional Council, so that everyone can see who this new left-wing heroine is, who, on October 7th, is being offered a stage in Genoa to advance and spread her hateful words. All this while a disturbing climate of anti-Semitism is increasingly spreading across the country,” he concludes.
Quoted in Kursiv Media, “Machado Dedicated Her Nobel Prize to Trump and Venezuela,” October 11, 2025:
The Nobel laureate is known as a critic of the current Venezuelan government. As UN Watch noted , she has faced persecution and restrictions from Caracas for ten years.
Quoted in Liberal.hr, “This Year’s Nobel Peace Prize Is Going to the Right Hands,” October 10, 2o25:
UN Watch, an organization that critically monitors the work of the UN and its agencies, accused her of anti-Semitism and bias in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In Croatia, she has strong support in the Mozmo party, which announced on social media yesterday that it supports Albanese for winning the Nobel Prize.
Quoted in the Epoch Times, “Ambassador Peled: UNRWA’s Complicity in Hamas Crimes Is Well Documented,” October 23, 2025:
Israel ‘s Ambassador to Italy, Jonathan Peled, wrote in X : “The complicity of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the crimes perpetrated by Hamas is widely documented with evidence gathered by the Israeli authorities and international organizations such as UN Watch . The Hague court’s failure to consider this evidence is not surprising, as it is far from legal impartiality.” Peled finally invited readers to consult the study drawn up by UN Watch which “gathers detailed documentation on the role of UNRWA in the Hamas network.”
Quoted in Nova24, “How Many Parachutes Has Golob Already Sent to Gaza,” October 12, 2025:
Recall: UNRWA has been criticized in the past for working closely with Hamas terrorists. In September, a shocking 200-page report by UN Watch revealed how Hamas leaders had taken control of the UNRWA school system, which educates hundreds of thousands of children in Gaza and Lebanon. The United Nations knew about this scandal – but failed to act.
Quoted in Jüdische Allgemeine, “A Clean Bill of Health for UNRWA,” October 23, 2025:
For Hillel Neuer of the Geneva-based NGO UN Watch, this reasoning seems downright ridiculous. “So the International Court of Justice of the United Nations has decided, quite impartially, that UNRWA will be reformed because the United Nations decided so,” Neuer mocked on X.
Quoted in Infobae, “Gaza: Hypocrisy or truth define its destiny,” October 5, 2025:
Reports from the European Parliament and organizations such as UN Watch and IMPACT document that the official Palestinian education system systematically fails to meet UNESCO standards on peace education. Manuals distributed by UNRWA deny the existence of the State of Israel and the Holocaust, glorify terrorism, and present those who murder Jews as heroes.
Quoted in Albenga Corsara, “Vaccarezza Attacks Albanian UN Rapporteur for Genoa Conference,” October 6, 2025:
Finally, he announces the presentation in the Region of a UN Watch report to clarify “who this new heroine of the left is” at a time of rising anti-Semitism in the country.
Quoted in Cubita Now, “The US at the UN Denounces the ‘Political Theater’ in Defense of the Cuban Dictatorship: ‘Do Not Legitimize a Corrupt Dictatorship,'” October 28, 2025:
Waltz’s speech was endorsed by Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, who wrote on the X network: “Powerful speech by the US ambassador against the UN’s annual ritual that presents the Cuban regime as a victim, when in reality it is the executioner of its people.” UN Watch, based in Geneva, is an independent organization that monitors the United Nations system and denounces human rights abuses committed by authoritarian regimes.
Quoted in Israel Hayom, “The World Has Lost the Ability to Distinguish Between Good and Evil”: Natasha Hausdorff, a British Voice on Israel’s Side,” October 15, 2o25:
On October 1 of this year, Hausdorff spoke before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on behalf of the organization UN Watch, where she attacked the report that accused Israel of “genocide” in Gaza. In her speech, she called the council a “global laundry of lies” and warned: “When international bodies are used as a platform for propaganda, it is a problem not only for Israel, but for every free country in the world.”
Quoted in Honest Reporting Canada, “CBC Radio Host Nadia Kidwai Joined By Anti-Israel Guest Ramsey Zeid, Who Tacitly Rationalizes Terrorist Attack Against Israel,” October 5, 2025:
A UN-appointed Commission of Inquiry has declared it a genocide, not the UN itself. An important distinction. Additionally, the commission has been criticized for anti-Israel bias, and UN Watch has called the Commission “a perpetual inquisition against Israel.”
Quoted in Israel National News, “How Qatari Money Influences the UN Circus,” October 25, 2025:
Hillel C. Neuer, a specialist in international law and director of UN Watch, deplored the UN’s choice to depict a “woman subjected to Sharia law.”
Quoted in Israel 365, “Greta Thunberg’s Sumud Flotilla Scheduled to Arrive in Israel on Yom Kippur,” October 1, 2025:
UN Watch also commented on the blockade’s legality.“The United Nations itself, in the Secretary-General’s Panel of Inquiry report of 2011 concerning the Mavi Marmara incident from the previous year, found that Israel’s Gaza blockade is legal under international law,” UN Watch wrote. “Israel faces a real threat to its security from militant groups in Gaza,” determined the UN inquiry, headed by Sir Geoffrey Palmer, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand. “The naval blockade was imposed as a legitimate security measure in order to prevent weapons from entering Gaza by sea and its implementation complied with the requirements of international law.”
Quoted in Honest Reporting Canada, “Press Columnist Rima Elkhouri Trades Facts For Feelings In Gaza Narrative,” October 16, 2025:
Between 2019 and 2023, Canada gave the United Nations Relief Works Agency $90M. UN Watch alleges that the organization is rife with corruption and had close associations with Hamas.
Quoted in Israel 365, “Greta Thunberg’s Gaza Flotilla Exposed: No Humanitarian Aid Found on ;Global Sumud’ Ships,” October 5, 2o25:
This position was echoed by UN Watch, which cited the 2011 UN Secretary-General’s Panel of Inquiry report on the Mavi Marmara incident. The inquiry, led by former New Zealand Prime Minister Sir Geoffrey Palmer, concluded that Israel’s blockade was “a legitimate security measure” consistent with international law, noting that “Israel faces a real threat to its security from militant groups in Gaza.”
