The UNRWA Union of Arab Employees closed all of the agency’s institutions this morning (9/20) for two hours in protest against the decision to suspend the head of the Union of Employees, Suhail al-Hindi, from work.
A number of agency employees also staged a sit-in at the main gate in Gaza City after it was closed, in solidarity with the legitimate demands of the Employees Union, for al-Hindi to return to work, and to stop all unjust decisions against agency employees.
The Union indicated that classes were suspended today for two hours in all UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip, with students leaving their schools in the morning period at ten in the morning and in the evening period at three in the evening, and that fellow teachers remain in their schools until the end of the school day.
The Federation explained that it had held several dialogues with the agency’s leadership regarding its recent decision against the Federation’s president, but it still refused and closed the doors to dialogue on this issue.
The federation stressed that it has the right to protest this unjust decision by all legitimate means and will continue escalatory steps if the administration.
