Election of Australia to the Security Council will nix Palestinian UDI bid

Geneva, 18 October – Today’s election of Australia to the UN Security Council means that a potential Palestinian bid for full UN membership would fail to secure the required nine positive votes, said UN Watch today in an analysis of today’s UN ballot. Click here for UN Watch report.

At the same time, noted the Geneva non-governmental watchdog group, a Palestinian bid for non-member state would likely win easy approval by the General Assembly.
