A new UN Watch video showing human rights expert” Francesca Albanese openly defending the Hamas terrorist organization has gone viral with over 4 million views on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In the shocking footage exposed by UN Watch, from an event in Sicily on August 8, 2025 Albanese said: People continue to say, ‘But Hamas, Hamas, Hamas…’ I don’t think people have any idea what Hamas is.”

“Hamas is a political force that won the 2005 elections—whether we like it or not. Hamas built schools, public facilities, hospitals. It was simply the authority, the de facto authority.”

Albanese continued her defense of the Palestinian terror group: It is critical that you understand, that when you think of Hamas, you should not necessarily think of cut-throats, people armed to the teeth, or fighters. It’s not like that.”

U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee responded on social media: “Most stunningly offensive comment heard in a generation. ‘Hamas built schools…’. That’s as stupid as saying ‘Hannibal Lecter made creative culinary dishes.'”

Citing UN Watch, the Jerusalem Post Editorial Board called for Albanese to be removed.

UN Watch Calls on Member States to Denounce Albanese’s Terror Support

“We are calling on all UN Member states to condemn Francesca Albanese’s despicable apologetics for the brutal and sadistic Hamas terrorist organization,” said UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer.

“The UN Secretary General has a duty to speak out when any UN figure brings the organization into disrepute. So does UN human rights chief Volcker Turk. We urge them to end their silence, and condemn Francesca Albanese’s odious defense of Hamas.”

Albanese Addressed 2022 Hamas Conference

Albanese’s remarks are the latest in a long history of her public support for Hamas, a designated terrorist organization in the U.S., Canada, European Union, Australia and other countries.

In November 2022, Albanese participated in a Hamas-organized conference, speaking by video to tell the assembled terrorists: You have a right to resist this occupation.” She added: Israel says resistance equals terrorism, but an occupation requires violence and generates violence.”

In wake of a campaign by UN Watch, Albanese’s extremist rhetoric and political and economic lawfare against Israel and the United States led to her becoming the first-ever UN official to be sanctioned by the U.S. government.

Previously, Albanese had been condemned for Holocaust distortion and antisemitism by France, Germany, Canada, and both Democratic and Republican U.S. administrations.

UN Watch Exposed Hamas Support By Albanese’s Husband,
A World Bank Official

The new video surfaces just days after UN Watch revelations that her husband Massimiliano Cali, the World Bank’s senior country economist in Tunisia, grossly violated World Bank neutrality rules by publishing inflammatory social media posts inciting antisemitism, promoting jihadist terrorism, and attacking Israel and the United States.

After UN Watch called on World Bank President Ajay Banga to fire Cali, he scrubbed the posts from his Facebook account.
