UN Watch in the News — May 2025

UN Watch was quoted in media outlets around the world in May 2025 on numerous topics, including our campaign to defeat Hamas apologist Francesca Albanese.

Featured in The Australian, “Hillel Neuer: The man who makes the UN tremble,” May 24, 2025:

Neuer is executive director of the Geneva-based UN Watch. Founded more than 30 years ago, UN Watch is one the world’s most important non-government organisations in a geopolitical sense.

It has a David and Goliath mission: to hold the UN and its members accountable to its charter. To keep the global cohort of bastards honest, if you will. No small gig in an environment where the world’s worst human rights abusers hold influence that should terrify us all.

Neuer has been described as many things, and I’m going to add to that list. He is the man every democratic nation is in debt to, whether they know it or not.

Let’s not forget that Qatar is the major bankroller of the Muslim Brotherhood. Qatar hosts Al Jazeera, a billion dollar, multi-billion dollar agency, that has spread for decades, the most anti-Western, anti-Israel, antisemitic incitement on a regular basis. Qatar bankrolls Hamas. They’ve given them tens of millions of dollars. The heads of the Hamas terrorist organization are housed in Doha, in Qatar’s capital.

Profiled in the Australian Jewish News, “Neuer’s mission to expose the UN,” May 29, 2025:

Neuer is the executive director of UN Watch, a human rights NGO in Geneva, Switzerland. He’s often regarded as one of the world’s foremost human rights advocates, yet when he enters the United Nations assembly he is met with various looks of hostility from all over the room. Despite the challenges and hostility Neuer often faces, he doesn’t see any other choice but to continue doing this critical work.

Key Quote:

The news agencies have to know by now, you’re throwing a match every time you put out lies because people, rightly or wrongly, identify Jewish people with Israel and many proud Jews identify with Israel. There are people who are looking for scapegoats, and when you say that “Israel is murdering babies,” for hundreds of years they said “Jews are murdering babies”—it’s the old blood libel revived in new form, equally as deadly.

Key Quote:

This grotesque lie [from the UN] that 14,000 babies will die in 48 hours isn’t just misinformation. It is a modern blood libel designed specifically to incite outrage and hatred against Israel, the world’s only Jewish and democratic state. And statements like this, they don’t stay in headlines. They fuel mobs. They inflame social media. They radicalize individuals, like the extremist last week in Washington, D.C., who murdered two Israeli diplomats who were exiting a Jewish event at the Jewish Museum. These kinds of lies have blood on their hands.

Featured in the Netherland’s De Telegraaf, “Controversial UN Rapporteur Albanese Under Fire Again,” May 14, 2025:

A new report by UN Watch reveals the UN covered up misconduct by controversial rapporteur Francesca Albanese. Complaints about her actions were ‘whitewashed’ by an investigative committee made up of her pro-Palestinian friends and fans, according to UN Watch.

Lawyer Hillel Neuer of UN Watch, an NGO that critically follows the work of the UN, is in the Netherlands on Wednesday to present his research, including to MPs. UN Watch calls for an immediate independent investigation into Albanese’s conduct.

Featured in the U.K.’s The Times, “It’s no wonder Israel doesn’t trust UNRWA to distribute aid,”  May 21, 2025:

US administrations have been fiercely critical of UNRWA, echoing the findings by the campaign group UN Watch, which has focused on UNRWA’s failure to take seriously Israeli complaints about its links with Hamas and its perpetuation of extremist educational content in UN-run Palestinian schools.

Shouted-out on Erin Molan’s show “The World’s Gone Bat Beep Crazy!” May 12, 2025:

Molan’s episode highlighting UN Watch was also covered by The Daily Wire, May 13, 2025:

Molan gave a shout-out to Hillel Neuer from UN Watch “for doing so much of the heavy lifting here.”

Hillel Neuer quoted in Fox News, “ICC prosecutor behind Netanyahu arrest warrants steps aside amid sexual misconduct probe,” May 16, 2025:

“Make no mistake: the problem is bigger than Khan. They’re throwing him under the bus to protect the institution and salvage their campaign against Israel. But the rot runs deep. This was never about justice, it was always about a political agenda,” Hillel Neuer, a lawyer and UN Watch Executive Director, told Fox News.

Featured in The Jerusalem Post, “Watchdog probe finds Albanese lied about funding sources for Australia, NZ visits,” May 14, 2025:

UN Watch filed a complaint regarding the funding for [Albanese’s trip to Australia], after which the UN secretariat referred the matter to the special rapporteurs’ Coordination Committee. The committee, according to UN Watch, is primarily comprised of Albanese’s allies, such as Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng, the UN’s special rapporteur on the right to health, from South Africa, who has claimed Israelis are “barbaric, evil, and deserving of hell on earth.”

“Albanese has compounded her misconduct, accepting funding from Hamas-supporting organizations and then lying by claiming the UN paid for her trip,” said UN Watch director Hillel Neuer. “She continuously abuses her position at the UN to spread antisemitic rhetoric and amplify Hamas propaganda through social media, TV, and her false reports.”

Featured in Israel’s ynet, “US demands dismissal of UN envoy to territories over Hamas-linked travel funding,” May 21, 2025:

The United States is calling for the dismissal of UN envoy to the territories Francesca Albanese after she concealed funding for her travels from Hamas-affiliated sources and violated UN conduct rules. The American demand follows a UN Watch report that revealed Albanese funded her trips to Australia and New Zealand through donations from Hamas supporters while claiming the funding came from the UN.

Featured in Jewish News Syndicate, “Francesca Albanese reappointment ‘invalid’, UN watchdog says,” May 2, 2025:

The three-year extension of Francesca Albanese’s role as a U.N. special rapporteur is “invalid” and “without any legal effect,” Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, wrote on Monday to António Guterres, the U.N. secretary-general. Albanese, who has a long history of anti-Israel bias, began her second and final three-year term on Thursday. Neuer wrote to Guterres that the global body didn’t follow the proper process to extend Albanese’s mandate.

The United Nations launched a probe into Albanese last summer for allegedly accepting a trip to Australia funded by pro-Hamas organizations that cost over $20,000. UN Watch, a Geneva-based NGO that monitors the UN, released a new report this week claiming that the UN and Albanese “engaged in a deliberate cover-up” to conceal her funding by pro-Hamas lobby groups.

UN Watch report reveals Francesca Albanese accepted $20,000 from Hamas-linked groups for travel, as a UN panel led by her allies defends her mandate despite acknowledging funding lies and antisemitic remarks.

Featured in Israel National News, “UN Watch challenges reappointment of anti-Israel UN rapporteur Francesca Albanese,” May 2, 2025:

The extension of Francesca Albanese’s tenure as UN Special Rapporteur has come under sharp criticism, with watchdog group UN Watch asserting that her reappointment breaches internal United Nations procedures and is therefore null and void.

Neuer also addressed a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging immediate action. He argued that Albanese’s reappointment violates established UN procedures and should be treated as void. “Francesca Albanese holds no UN mandate, no immunity and can be sanctioned and denied entry,” he wrote.

UN Watch’s annual Geneva Summit mentioned by Afghanistan International, “Iran International Wins Media Award In Washington For Free Expression,” May 9, 2025:

In May 2024, Iran International also received the 2024 Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy’s “Courage Award.” This recognition highlighted the threats and pressures faced by the network’s journalists and praised their bravery, noting that the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Intelligence has labelled the network a “terrorist organisation” due to its reporting.

Featured in Women’s Agenda, “Stories from women in Saudi Arabia’s ‘jails’ contrast the nation’s illusion of progress,” May 31, 2025:

Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a non-profit dedicated to holding the UN accountable to its founding principles, described [Saudi Arabia’s] role as chair of the [UN’s Women’s Rights] commission as “surreal” and likened the decision to “putting Dracula in charge of the blood bank.”

“Regrettably,” says UN Watch, “a Geneva-based non-governmental organization accredited in special consultative status with the United Nations,” “millions of human rights victims around the world are routinely ignored by the U.N. Instead of condemning their oppressors, all too often the U.N. awards powerful dictatorships, such as China, Cuba and Saudi Arabia, with positions of honor.”

Featured in Israel’s Bhol, “The UN representative in the territories received funding from pro-Hamas entities,” May 14, 2025:

A new report by UN Watch, which monitors UN activities, raises serious allegations against France’s Albanese. After UN Watch complained about the matter, the UN Secretariat launched a campaign of cover-ups and turned to the Coordination Committee of Special Rapporteurs. Absurdly, this is the committee that finally found that Albenza did lie about her funding sources, and still decided to renew her mandate.

Hillel Neuer quoted in Australia’s J-Wire, “Hillel Neuer calls on Australia to end funding for UNRWA and confront UN bias,” May 22, 2025:

“Australia is giving twenty million dollars a year to an agency (UNRWA) that, in many cases, is run by people affiliated with terrorist groups,” Neuer stated. “Your tax dollars are funding schools where children are taught that their home isn’t Gaza or Lebanon, but Israel; and that they’ll get it back through armed resistance.”

Featured in Israel’s Maariv, “After the massacre: The UN mission flew with funding from pro-Hamas movements—and even lied about it,” May 14, 2025:

A special report by UN Watch published today reveals that Francesca Albanese, the UN representative responsible for Israeli violations in the territories, received an illicit sum of approximately $20,000 (over 70,000 shekels) from Hamas-supporting organizations to finance her travels in Australia and New Zealand in late 2023—shortly after the terrible massacre.
