“I ask the United Nations: Where is my son?”

On Friday, March 7th, UN Watch gave the floor to the courageous Ayelet Samerano, whose 21-year-old son Yonatan was kidnapped on October 7th — by an UNRWA social worker.

When a so-called UN human rights expert published a report claiming that “UNRWA is under attack,” Ayelet took the floor to tell the world the truth.

Ayelet’s testimony was widely shared on social media in both English and French, and was covered by major Israeli media including Maariv, Channel 13 TV, and ynet.

UN Watch statement to United Nations Human Rights Council, 7 March 2025, delivered by Ayelet Samerano:

“Mr. Rapporteur, in your report, you claim the reputation of UNRWA is ‘under attack.’

I speak today as a mother. My son, Yonatan, 21 years old, was shot on October 7th.

Then an UNRWA social worker kidnapped him. Right now, Yonatan is still held by terrorists in Gaza.

So I know what an attack is. An attack is when terrorists, including UNRWA employees like Mohammad Abu Ittiwi, enter a music festival, and murder innocent, young people.

An attack is when a UN *SOCIAL WORKER*, paid by this organization, kidnaps my son into Gaza. A person who took upon himself to do good — yet did evil.

No, UNRWA is not under attack. UNRWA is the attacker.

An UNRWA teacher held 84-year-old Ditza Heiman captive.

Terrorists held Emily Damari captive — in an UNRWA building.

UNRWA’s entire infrastructure has helped Hamas murder our children.

You talk about human rights. What about Yonatan’s rights? What about the hostages still suffering in Gaza, right now?

Mr. Rapporteur, your report says UNRWA was ‘affected severely by deaths of its staff.’

Does this include the UNRWA worker who kidnapped my Yonatan?

Mr. Rapporteur, I ask you, I ask the United Nations: Where is my son?”
