Human Rights Watch’s Ken Roth solicited a Saudi billionaire for a $470,000 gift by promising not to use the funds to defend LGBT people in the Middle East — just after his organization had cited the donor’s abuse of workers in a report on “slavery-like conditions.”
According to The Intercept, “the controversial donation is at the center of a contentious internal debate” about Roth’s “judgment and leadership.”
