Maher Saeed Twieh, UNRWA Tripoli Teacher, Praises Hamas

Maher Saeed Twieh is a teacher at UNRWA’s Amqa Mixed Secondary School in Tripoli Lebanon and head of the UNRWA Teachers Union sectoral committee. He was suspended by UNRWA on October 11, 2024. Twieh’s neutrality violations include the following:

  • Describes Hamas Lebanon Leader Fateh Sharif as his “commander” and “comrade in cause and identity.”
  • Honors Hamas co-founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin and the so-called Unity Intifada.

Twieh appears in a photo of the UNRWA Lebanon Teachers Union in front of an UNRWA field office in Lebanon in October 2022. 

Twieh Venerates Fateh Sharif as His “Commander”

In May 2024 Facebook posts featuring photos of UNRWA Teachers Union Head / Hamas Lebanon Leader Fateh Sharif speaking in front of a map of Palestine that erases Israel, Twieh refers to Sharif as “the Leader and devoted chairman” and his “companion in cause and identity.” (May 3, 2024).

Twieh Honors Hamas Co-Founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin

In a May 2021 Facebook post, Twieh honored Hamas co-founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin as a “patriotic spirit” and described the May 2021 Israel/Hamas war, as a “victory of the Palestinian resistance.” (May 22, 2021).
