Issa Mustafa Al-Hanafi, UNRWA Deputy Principal in Tyre, Linked to Hamas

Issa Mustafa al-Hanafi replaced Sharif as the Principal of UNRWA’s Deir Yassin High School in Tyre Lebanon. Before that he was the Deputy Principal. He is also an UNRWA Teachers Union leader. Al-Hanafi’s neutrality violations include the following:

  • Appeared on stage at an event with the Hamas leader Abdul Majeed al-Awad in Tyre.
  • Appeared with Fateh Sharif in front of the UNRWA Deir Yassin school holding a poster pledging solidarity with the Jerusalem Intifada in 2015.

Appears on Stage with Hamas Leader at Event Featuring Child in Military Fatigues

In March 2018, al-Hanafi appeared on stage with the Hamas political and media officer and leader in Tyre, Abdul Majeed al-Awad, at an event honoring outstanding UNRWA students. The event also featured children dressed in Hamas uniform pledging their allegiance to resist. (March 12, 2018).

Endorses 2015 Jerusalem Intifada 

In December 2015, al-Hanafi was pictured standing in front of the UNRWA Deir Yassin school holding a poster signed by school staff and students expressing “solidarity with the Jerusalem Intifada,” referring to the wave of Palestinian stabbing and car-rammings attacks that killed some 40 Israelis in 2015-2016, effectively endorsing terrorism.
