In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, UN Humanitarian Chief Tom Fletcher confidently asserted that “the vast, vast majority of the aid that we get in gets to civilians.”

Yet this claim is flatly contradicted by the UN’s own data, exposing the UN’s abject failure to deliver humanitarian aid to Gazan civilians.

According to statistics published by the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), as of August 3, 2025, 87% of the 2,010 UN food trucks that entered the Gaza Strip since May 19, 2025, were intercepted by armed groups or crowds during transit in Gaza.

These figures confirm a longstanding pattern: UN humanitarian aid entering Gaza is being systematically hijacked by Hamas and other militants, depriving Gaza’s civilian population of desperately needed assistance.

Fletcher Lies Again

This is not the first time Tom Fletcher has been caught spreading falsehoods. Earlier this year, he made the sensational and unfounded claim to the BBC that 14,000 babies would die within 48 hours in Gaza. After Fletcher’s libelous statement was quickly debunked, UN Watch called on the UN to remove him from his post. The UN Humanitarian Chief refused to apologize, and no disciplinary action was initiated by the UN Secretary-General.

“As top UN officials like Tom Fletcher and UNRWA’s Philippe Lazzarini continue to flood the airwaves with misinformation—insisting that only the UN can effectively deliver aid in Gaza—the UN’s own figures prove the opposite,” said UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer.

“Fletcher’s track record of false statements and disinformation makes him unfit to serve in the important position of UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator,” Neuer added.
