U.N. Investigator Exposes Extrajudicial Killings in Kenya

Mr. Philip Alston, U.N. expert on Extrajudicial, Summary, or Arbitrary Excecutions highlighted the problem of extrajudicial killings in Kenya during his presentation at the U.N. Human Rights Council today. He noted Kenya’s post-election violence, killings of human rights defenders, and police killings and called for the dismissal of the Police Commissioner and resignation of the Attorney General. He also complained about the personal attacks against him by the Kenyan police for bringing attention to this issue. Click here for AFP story on Alston’s testimony on Kenya.

Mr. Alston also mentioned the need to combat impunity for extrajudicial killing in Guatemala, juvenile killings in Iran, and shortcomings in the U.S. military justice system.
