As the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, many worldwide turned to UN Watch for the truth about the misogynistic terrorist group. Below are some our viral tweets on the crisis.
Western Reactions
Our tweets on naive diplomatic appeals to the Taliban sparked a firestorm.
🇺🇸 Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield says U.S. expressed "in no uncertain terms" at the United Nations through "a very strongly worded press statement" from the Security Council that "we expect the Taliban to respect women's rights" and "to be respectful of humanitarian law." pic.twitter.com/32TEyRFu4O

You know the world has completely abandoned you when the UN's strategy to save you from evil misogynistic terrorists consists of calling on them to be inclusive. https://t.co/MQtkzbnvhg

🇨🇦 Canada's Minister for Women & Gender Equality calls Taliban "our brothers."
That's why I'm so worried the Taliban will get Afghanistan's seat on the U.N. Women's Rights Commission.
158 Canadian soldiers died fighting the Taliban. Thousands wounded. Taliban not our brothers. https://t.co/9NvWVTFgOM

UN Silence
UN Watch called out the pitiful reaction of the UN, including Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The head of the U.N. cannot even condemn the Taliban. https://t.co/oqp7dQMjPG

Dear UN Secretary General @antonioguterres: If the world body mandated to protect international peace and security cannot come forward and try uniting the world to save the Afghan people—and especially women & girls—from the Taliban terror, maybe it’s time to just close up shop. https://t.co/5Uekk04CUy

Human Rights Council Calls Special Session
When the Human Rights Council did eventually react, it was led by Pakistan, which resulted in a shockingly watered-down resolution that failed to mention the Taliban by name.
BREAKING: The main co-sponsor of next week’s UNHRC urgent session on the human rights situation in Afghanistan is 🇵🇰 Pakistan—the Taliban’s top sponsor. That’s like OJ calling an urgent meeting to find the killer.
And the other co-sponsor is Afghanistan itself—i.e., the Taliban? https://t.co/4f8sNIKwgp pic.twitter.com/BcygCXGe6d

BREAKING: The UN Human Rights Council session on Afghanistan just adopted one of the most watered-down resolutions in its history. Text fails to document Taliban atrocities; fails to condemn the Taliban; fails to create a commission of inquiry. Credibility of UNHRC is at zero. https://t.co/JwsdrVkV8N pic.twitter.com/2PnkgoMZkF

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said last week the Taliban are “breaking the chains of slavery.”
Whoever let Pakistan take charge of today's embarrassing UNHRC session on Afghanistan—which gave the Taliban a free pass—had to know it would be a travesty.https://t.co/R6BlPZL8ey

Taliban Could Join Top UN Women’s Rights Body
UN Watch called out the delayed response from the UN Human Rights Council, and exposed how the Taliban are poised to inherit membership of UNESCO, the UN agency charged with safeguarding world heritage, as well as Afghanistan’s existing memberships of ECOSOC and the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Tragic: 🇦🇫 Afghanistan just took its seat on the UN women's rights commission and if the new Taliban regime gets recognized it means the terrorists who lash women and girls for going to work and school will be sitting on the world's top women's rights body. https://t.co/koKTeVATFi

Terrorists who hate and subjugate women have taken over Afghanistan, committing war crimes and atrocities.
Desperate Afghans are tying themselves to the wheels of airplanes in order to flee the Taliban.
And this is the reaction of the UN’s highest human rights body. pic.twitter.com/SCloVgBpVu

You know it's only a matter of time before the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is elected to the U.N. Human Rights Council.
EU diplomats justified electing Iran's regime to the women's rights commission, and China, Russia and Cuba to the UNHRC, because "that's how they'll learn." pic.twitter.com/SYhoMh1uxi

Taliban seat on UN Commission on the Status of Women is 'likely,' says former U.S. envoy to UN.
As we predicted. pic.twitter.com/rhwWxXK8yc

Ambassador Nikki Haley is right: We must stop the Taliban from taking the Afghan seat at the United Nations.
The Taliban are Islamist terrorists who bomb schools and treat women like slaves.
We need to recognize that murderers who open Twitter accounts remain murderers. https://t.co/r980SKNrO4

The Islamic Republic of Iran was recently elected to the U.N. women's rights commission. You know the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is next. https://t.co/qxZC4eghwL

Woke Hypocrisy
Woke leaders like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Ben and Jerry’s failed to condemn Taliban atrocities. Swedish foreign minister Ann Linde reacted to criticism by blocking Hillel Neuer on Twitter.
Prediction: Ben and Jerry's will never announce a boycott of the Taliban. pic.twitter.com/CFxzcVqtXj

The woke are shamed into silence this week because millions of genuine victims of systemic evil in Afghanistan are turning for help and asylum to precisely those Western societies that the woke falsely imagine to be systemically evil.
— Hillel Neuer (@HillelNeuer) August 18, 2021
There is an inverse relationship between the moral outrage woke activists exercise against Western democracies for imagined oppression and their concern for actually oppressed women and girls who get lashed by the Taliban for the crime of going to work or to school.

I’d like to ask social media star lawmakers @aoc & @IlhanMN to please end their silence and do something to save millions of Afghan women now in danger from Taliban tyranny, but then their progressive political defenders would accuse me of “literally putting their lives at risk.”
— Hillel Neuer (@HillelNeuer) August 15, 2021
After the war in May in which you sided with Hamas vs. Israel, Hamas met with the Taliban.
Now Hamas is celebrating the Taliban victory and pledging to do the same to Israel.
You pretend to be progressive, but you side with misogynist terrorists. https://t.co/MWn0OWL9YC pic.twitter.com/qK2VAzPYdH

No joke: the Swedish foreign minister blocked me.
Why? For showing how she sold out her "feminist foreign policy" by kowtowing to the Mullahs & legitimizing Iran's misogynist hijab law.@annlinde, doesn't Sweden embrace transparency?
(Please send this to her so she'll see it!) https://t.co/B4eulcDQ1Z pic.twitter.com/CKwCEFexSz

Taliban and Islamist Human Rights Abuses
To punish thieves the Taliban paints their faces black.
The U.N. and the woke have never once condemned Taliban racism. It doesn’t fit their narrative. https://t.co/sCOB9JVez4

Taliban official says they will soon declare “the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” from the presidential palace in Kabul, reports AP.
Winners today: Taliban, Islamic Republic of Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, global Jihadism.
Losers: Afghan women, girls, basic human rights. https://t.co/EQsiS5yLEk

I am shocked by the massacre and maiming of so many people in Kabul today. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.
Two days ago we met at the UNHRC on Afghanistan. They refused to call out Islamist terrorists. Moral clarity is needed now more than ever.

1. Islamist suicide bombers just murdered at least 60 Afghans & 12 US troops.
2. Pakistan sponsors the Taliban & other terrorist groups. It must be held to account.
3. Iran sponsors terrorist Hamas & Hezbollah, the pioneers of suicide bombings. Iran too must be held to account.
